There is nothing quite like the adrenalin rush you get as you bounce over rapids and free fall over the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world!! The Kaituna River begins its journey at Lake Rotorua and flows out into the Bay of Plenty 45 kilometres later. The upper section of the Kaituna River offers some of the best white water rafting in the world and commercial operators have been rafting and kayaking on it since 1991. Today you will join the original rafting company and under their expert guidance, experience the thrills and adventure this river can bring!! This is the perfect tour for the adrenalin junkie!!
After meeting you at the Port of Tauranga we begin the tour with a gentle drive along the coast showcasing our stunning white sandy beaches and telling you a little about the region and its history.
Our first stop is to visit a working Kiwi fruit orchard, where you can get amongst the vines, taste the green and gold kiwi fruit and sample the kiwi fruit and juices. We explain the significance of the kiwi fruit to the region and tell you a little about its growing cycle. After this its back on the road as we wind our way through the rolling countryside past the dense pine forest plantations to arrive at Okere Falls - home of the grade 5 Kaituna River which sees thousands of rafters plummet over the roaring waterfalls each year.
At Okere Falls where you meet your local rafting guides, you will be fitted out for your white water adventure. The helmets, lifejackets and paddles are the best available, and wetsuits, fleece tops, wetsuit booties and splash jackets are also provided to suit weather conditions. After some dry land training its off on the adventure of a lifetime. You will float through steep canyons showcasing stunning native bush, and be guided over 14 awesome rapids and 3 waterfalls including the world-famous 7 metre Tutea Falls! Along the way you will hear the Maori legends of the river and learn about its significance to the local people.
After your rafting adventure, you will join up again with the rest of the tour group and travel back to Tauranga via steep sided gorges with great examples of NZ lowland forest.
Come with us on a great day of fun and exploration. This white water adventure is suitable for both rafting enthusiasts and first timers alike. This tour will provide you with memories that will last forever.
